Janet Jackson kicked off her Unbreakable world tour in Vancouver’s Rogers Arena Monday night with a monolithic 32-song set and killer new track featuring Missy Elliot.
The concert included three unreleased songs and the first comeback single from her upcoming LP, “Unbreakable,” titled “No Sleeep.”
For Vancouver, the tour set came as a clear connection to her hip-hop roots, bringing the funk with Missy Elliot and J. Cole appearing on video to chime in on remixed collaborations.
According to the New York Times the pop and R&B star has not toured in four years, or released a studio album in seven.
Although Jackson has yet to confirm a release date for Unbreakable, Rolling Stone suspects it will arrive later this fall.
In a video message shared on Twitter she said: ‘I promised you’d hear it from my lips and now you will. ‘This year: new music; new world tour; a new movement. I’ve been listening. Let’s keep the conversation going.’
The video segment contained the phrase “My Conversation” and the hashtag ConversationsInACafe which for some fans might be worth following.
Jackson’s tour will continue through most of North America through early November, already releasing a second leg kick off up into early 2016.
