Vice President Joe Biden was on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night and, while it could have just been an opportunity for Biden to announce his plans to run in 2016, it was anything but that. Instead, Biden took the opportunity to remember his son Beau Biden.

Beau died in May following a battle with brain cancer. He was only 46 and was survived by his wife and two children. Beau’s mother and sister Naomi died in a car accident in 1972. Since Colbert has dealt with tragedy himself, it was an especially moving interview.

Later in the interview, Biden explained why he eventually agreed to be President Barack Obama’s vice president. Biden did run for president in 2008 and it’s been rumored that he will run again. But he didn’t make any firm commitment in the interview with Colbert.

Instead, he told Colbert, “I think you should run for president again and I’ll be your vice president!”
