Not many people saw the version of Fantastic Four that 20th Century Fox actually released in theaters last month. Even Kate Mara, who played Sue Storm in the film, hasn’t bothered with it.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Mara seemed a bit embarrassed to be involved in the film, especially with her The Martian co-stars Sebastian Stan and Michael Pena by her side. Both actors appeared in Marvel hits, with Stan in Captain America and Pena in Ant-Man.
When Stan admitted that he hadn’t seen FF, Mara surprisingly said that she hasn’t either. “I didn't even see the one that's out there,” Mara said.
Mara said that she’s much happier to be a part of The Martian, which was directed by Ridley Scott and stars Matt Damon.
“I've certainly been a part of movies that people are not very thrilled about,” she said. “So it's nice to be in something people love, that you loved working on.”
Of course, FF was dogged by negative press even before it opened and then director Josh Trank infamously distanced himself from the final cut before the movie even hit theaters.
Weirdly enough, producer Simon Kinberg still thinks that Fox will greenlight a FF 2. If that happens, Mara may have to end watching the film after all.
