One half of the country music duo Montgomery Gentry, Eddie, has lost his 19-year-old son, according to People. Hunter was on life support in a Kentucky hospital after getting into an accident.

"My son Hunter went to heaven today," the singer said in a statement to People. "I appreciate all your prayers and love and thank you for giving us privacy as we grieve and say goodbye."

Montgomery Gentry’s also posted a statement on their Facebook page.

“Unfortunately, we have to fill you in on more heartbreaking news this morning from the Montgomery Gentry family. Our sincerest love, thoughts and prayers are with Eddie and his family today,” the post said.

According to Taste of Country, Eddie had four children with his ex-wife Tracy, and Hunter was the youngest.

Eddie has faced a lot of tragedy over the years. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2010, and fought the disease until he was cancer free in 2014. Eddie also filed for personal bankruptcy in 2014 after his divorce and his restaurant went out of business.

Funeral arrangements for Hunter are still pending.
