Sally Field was honored at the White House on Thursday by President Obama at the National Medal of Arts and National Humanities Medal awards ceremony, where he paid homage to a pivotal moment in her career.
During his speech for the honorees for the National Medal of Arts or National Humanities Medal, he mentioned Field’s famous 1985 Oscars speech for which she won Best Actress.
"We like you. We really like you,” he said, referring to her words, “I can’t deny the fact that you like me, right now you like me!”
In a statement announcing Fields to be honored, the White House said it will recognize her “dignity, empathy and fearlessness in performances that have touched audiences worldwide, as well as showing those same qualities in her off-screen advocacy for women, LGBT rights and public health," as we previously reported.
More honorees included authors Stephen King, Larry McMurty and Jhumpa Lahiri and chef Alice Waters.
