The trailer has just debuted for Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne's new film The Danish Girl. Tim Bevan, producer on the film, is explaining why this project has such incredible timing in light of current cultural events happening today.
Girl focuses on Lili Elbe, played by Redmayne. Elbe was a Danish artist in the 1920s that was the first recipient of sexual reassignment surgery.
The film will be making its world debut on Saturday in Venice. Beyan spoke to The Hollywood Reporter and explained that it was luck that this movie focuses on such trending cultural events. "It’s just one of those good pieces of zeitgeist and good fortune. It’s something that Tom Hooper had on his radar for some time, but the timing couldn’t have been better," said Beyan.
With pop culture opening up to transgender issues and shows like Orange is the New Black focusing on transgender characters, Beyan said that a lot of the education the film would have had to do around this issue has already been done through pop culture.
As previously reported, the biopic also stars Alicia Vikander, Ben Whishaw, Amber Heard and Matthias Schoenaerts.
