Robert Redford and Jane Fonda could be reuniting soon, over three decades after their last movie together. They are reportedly in talks for Our Souls At Night, a project Netflix is considering picking up.
The streaming service is already in talks to finance the film, based on Kent Haruf’s novel, reports Deadline. Redford, who has the screen rights to the book, will produce and Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber will write the script. The writing duo has also written (500) Days of Summer, The Fault In Our Stars and The Spectacular Now.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that the novel centers on two neighbors who recently lost their spouses. While they had previously stayed by themselves in their big homes, they begin to connect, discuss their pasts and find a romantic connection.
Redford and Fonda have made four movies together, but none since 1979’s The Electric Horseman.
Netflix is about to release its first film, Beasts Of No Nation, and reportedly plans to spend $60 million to make Brad Pitt’s War Machine. The service also has Grace and Frankie, a series that co-stars Fonda and Lily Tomlin.
Redford can currently be seen in A Walk In The Woods and stars as Dan Rather next in Truth. Fonda will be spotted in Paolo Sorrentino’s Youth. Both Truth and Youth played at the Toronto International Film Festival.
