Singer-songwriter Ryan Adams is about to open himself up to a whole new fanbase. After posting covers of every song from Taylor Swift’s 1989 on social media, Adams announced today that he plans to release his own 1989.
While the album’s title might not have the same significance for Adams as it does for Swift (Adams was born in 1974), he became obsessed with Swift’s album. In August, he started posting short clips of his versions of “Welcome To New York” and others on Instagram and Twitter. Today, he announced that he plans to release the recordings as his own 1989 through his Pax Am label on Sept. 21. It will be available digitally before physical copies hit stores.
Adams’ version of “Bad Blood” debuted on Zane Lowe’s Apple Music radio show today. On Monday, Adams will appear on Lowe’s show with a special guest joining over the phone. (We think it might be a certain 25-year-old.)
Since Swift is a fan of Adams, she was stunned by the news that this is actually happening.
