Many Latin recording artists are upset and angered over the remarks Donald Trump made this summer about Mexicans and now they have decided to fight back the best way they know how … through song.
The San Diego Union Tribune has reported that Cuban-born music producer Emilio Estefan is putting together a collaboration to combat the Republican frontrunner’s negative comments about Mexicans.
The song will be titled "We're All Mexican” and whether Mexican or not a boatload of artists are jumping aboard to show solidarity within the Hispanic community and beyond against the brash comments. Along with Estefan’s famous wife Gloria, Shakira, Carlos Santana, Wyclef Jean, Thalia, Pepe Aguilar, Wisin, radio personality Enrique Santos and Spanish-American chef José Andrés are all said to be part of the project.
Estefan said that he has known Trump for many years and that he is entitled to his own opinion and this song is about a “celebration” more than anything.
“There’s a message being sent out to the world where people are giving opinions that are plain wrong,” he said. “We need to lift up our pride and show the world what we’re doing."
The real estate mogul’s comments have not only turned many celebrities on him, but have also had a trickle-down effect on some of his business relationships as well. However, he is still leading in the polls.
“We’re All Mexican” will be released later this month.
