Just because you starred in the highest grossing film from 2014 doesn’t guarantee that you make the final cut of another movie. American Sniper star Sienna Miller has been cut from the Johnny Depp-starring Whitey Bulger biopic Black Mass.

In an interview with the Boston Globe, director Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart) confirmed that Miller will not be seen in the final cut. “It came down to narrative choices,” he said.

As Entertainment Weekly notes, Miller played Catherine Greig, who was a girlfriend of Bulger’s. She is the woman who lived with Bulger while he was on the run from the law for 16 years.

Miller already admitted herself that the role was just a cameo. In December 2014, she told Boston.com that he only filmed for two weeks, calling it a cameo. But at least she had the experience of of working with Depp.

“I had an amazing time working with Johnny Depp, who I think is extraordinary and Scott Cooper, the director, who’s made some amazing films as well,” Miller said. “The story’s in the right hands and it was amazingly fun to come in. I got to be from Southie, I got to age from 28 to 56.”

The actors that did make the final cut for Black Mass include Dakota Johnson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Joel Edgerton and Kevin Bacon. The film opens on Sept. 18.

Miller played Chris Kyle’s widow Taya in American Sniper. She will be seen in Burnt with Bradley Cooper.
