Fox's Fantastic Four could be considered a disaster. The film didn't perform at the box office, only making around $26 million opening weekend, and was receive negatively by most critics and fans. Despite the issues surrounding the film, a sequel might still be possible.
Simon Kinberg, producer and writer on Four, opened up to MTV at the Toronto Film Festival. Kinberg was supporting his latest project, Ridley Scott's The Martian. When asked about how Four was received, he didn't avoid the question and answered it head on.
“I was obviously disappointed. I was most disappointed that fans didn’t like it. I care more about them than I do anyone else. But I haven’t done a full deep dive on it. Do I think it was unfairly treated? I don’t know," said Kinberg. "There was a lot of attention on the process of making that movie. It’s hard, when you’re making a movie, movies are hard to make. It’s just the reality.”
When it comes to the sequel, Kinberg is ready and willing to move forward. "I’m really focused on the next one …We’re figuring out what that movie would be."
Kate Mara was also attending The Martian premiere and wasn't as optimistic about a Fantastic Four sequel. "[It’s] unlikely that [a sequel] will happen, but I would love to [do one]. I would love to play Sue Storm in a movie that everybody loves. That would be great," said Mara.
