Saturday, Sept. 26 marked the second-annual Batman Day, a holiday created by DC Comics last year to celebrate Caped Crusader’s 75th anniversary.
To celebrate its iconic superhero, DC is cutting prices on its Batman comics, with other retailers giving away a free issue of the comics, and even cupcake chain Sprinkles selling Batman-themed sweets, according to IGN.
The famous Caped Crusader, who first appeared in comics in 1940, quickly drew a large and loyal following, with decades of comics produced, eventually leading to television shows, movie series, and cartoons all spawned from Batman.
However, not everyone is thrilled about Batman Day. Kotaku called it “a fake holiday invented for the sole purpose of helping market merchandise branded with the Dark Knight.”
The site goes on to say that Sept. 26 is the wrong day to celebrate, pointing out that Bruce Wayne became Batman the day is parents were killed, revealed in a June 26 comic issue, and not the day he first donned the iconic mask and costume.
Regardless of which day Batman Day is on, fans everywhere can rejoice, as the popular comic book turned big screen superhero will always have his day to be remembered.
