Even though Daniel Craig has done a pretty good job as James Bond, there’s an itch on the web to get him replaced after Spectre. Names like Idris Elba and Damian Lewis have been floated as possible replacements, but another actor recently emerged: Tom Hardy.

Hardy isn’t actually seriously talking with producers about taking on the role and he was only linked to 007 last week. Variety reported on Sept. 2 that Irish online bookmaker BoyleSports has given Hardy the best odds to be the next Bond. Of course, Lewis and Henry Cavill also have support, as do Dominic West, Orlando Bloom, Michael Fassbender and Rupert Friend.

Hardy later told Sky News that he would be interested in playing Bond, because who wouldn’t be?

“I think anybody would consider doing Bond, wouldn't they?” the actor said.

All this speculation about Craig being replaced really reached new heights after Craig told Esquire that Spectre could be his last Bond movie. He left the door open to make another one, but he didn’t sound too enthusiastic about it.

“I really don’t know. Honestly. I’m not trying to be coy. At the moment I can’t even conceive it,” he said. He later added that he wouldn’t want to do another one. “I have a life and I’ve got to get on with it a bit. But we’ll see.”

Meanwhile, Hardy will next be seen in Legend, which opens on Oct. 2. This summer, he starred in Mad Max: Fury Road.
