There’s another controversy involving the Washington Redskins and no it has nothing to do with the quarterbacks or whether the team will ever change its name. This has to do with tweets sent out by general manager Scot McCloughan’s wife, Jessica, suggesting that a female reporter performs sexual acts in exchange for stories.

Blacksportsonline.com posted the now-deleted direct messages from Twitter, which were sent from McCloughan’s wife to ESPN reporter Dianna Russini, questioning how many sexual favors Russini gave in order to get information.

USATodaySports noted that the Redskins initially denied that the tweets came from McCloughan and said the account was fake. However, just three hours later, McCloughan issued a public apology, although she never mentioned Russini’s name.

“I deeply apologize for the disparaging remarks about an ESPN reporter on my personal Twitter account,” she said. “The comment was unfounded and inappropriate, and I have the utmost respect for both the reporter and ESPN. I regret that my actions have brought undeserved negative attention to the Redskins organization and its leadership. My comments in no way reflect the opinions or attitudes of the organization and I regret that my behavior has in any way negatively impacted the team and its loyal fan base.”

In response ESPN released a statement defending Russini calling her an “excellent reporter” who should not have been subjected to such lewd remarks.

McCloughan’s husband is entering his first season as general manager with the team.
