The cast of the newest Planet of the Apes has been pretty mysterious, but we now have a bit more information, as Woody Harrelson has been added in a key role.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Harrelson will play the villain of War of the Planet of the Apes. Not much else about about the character is known yet, but he'll be referred to as the Colonel.

Harrelson is the latest to join the movie after Gabriel Chavarria was cast last month. However, although at the time Deadline reported Chavarria would be playing one of two human leads, The Hollywood Reporter is now saying his part is somewhat minor.

We still don't know what other human characters if any might return from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, but director Matt Reeves will thankfully be back in the director's chair. He has said that the new film, the third in the rebooted series that began with Rise of the Planet of the Apes in 2011, would see Caesar "becoming the seminal figure for ape history."

This will be Harrelson's first experience with the Planet of the Apes franchise, though he's no stranger to science fiction, appearing in the Hunger Games series over the past few years. He's currently working on Rob Reiner's LBJ, in which he'll be playing President Lyndon Johnson.

War of the Planet of the Apes hits theaters on July 14, 2017.
