One person is dead, another is injured and Texas Southern University is on lockdown after a shooting at the campus Friday morning.

WPVI noted that gunfire was reported at the University Courtyard Apartments just after 11:30 a.m. local time. Law enforcement officials responded to the scene and placed the Houston university on lockdown.

The school sent out messages via social media alerting students that classes would be canceled for the remainder of the day.

A short time later police announced that they have a “possible suspect” in custody.

This shooting follows another college campus shooting just hours earlier in Arizona and another eight days ago in Oregon. One person was killed and three people were wounded at Northern Arizona University Friday and 10 people including the gunman were fatally shot at Umpqua Community College last week.

As for the shooting at TSU, it is the third in two months and the second at the housing complex. Students at the university are not permitted to carry firearms on campus.
