A.J. McLean made every ‘90s kids day recently when he let slip that a reunion tour was currently being discussed for the Backstreet Boys and the Spice Girls.
McLean told Rolling Stone, “The Spice Girls tour has been this idea bouncing around for the past year and a half, and it’s something we’re still talking about.”
Both groups have been explicit in their explanations that the tour is still being discussed with nothing confirmed yet.
Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) told her fans of her radio show “If anything happens and it’s concrete, and we decide on something, I will let you know, but nothing’s happening at the moment.”
In the midst of the excitement for the tour, Victoria Beckham announced she will not be performing in any tour that may or may not take place. Instead, she told co-Spice Girl Gerri Hallwell that she would be at "one of the shows, or maybe more, cheering from the front row."
The two groups would be together only for the portion of the tour taking place in the United States, a strategy aimed towards booking larger venues. “They were big but their success didn’t last quite as long, so teaming with another big act is a way of booking bigger venues.”
This strategy will ultimately prove successful as both groups’ fans from the ‘90s, and today, anxiously await the official announcement of a tour.
