Anthony Bourdain is not a Donald Trump supporter and he explained why that is on Pete Dominick’s SiriusXM radio show this week.
When asked about the GOP presidential hopeful’s plans to build a wall to separate the U.S. from Mexico, Bourdain said it will ruin the restaurant industry, which is comprised of immigrants.
He called immigrants “the backbone of the industry,” adding in every restaurant he’s ever worked, the person who had “been there the longest” and showed him the ropes was “always Mexican or Central American.”
“If Mr. Trump deports 11 million people or whatever he’s talking about right now, every restaurant in America would shut down,” he said, EW reports.
The CNN host went on to say that out of his 30 years in the industry, he found immigrants would take jobs that no "American-born kid" would.
"Never, in any of those years, not once, did anyone walk into my restaurant — any American-born kid — walk into my restaurant and say I'd like a job as a night porter or a dishwasher," he said. "Even a prep cook — few and far between. Just not willing to start at the bottom like that."
