If Hollywood needs any proof that audiences still like to see older movies on the big screen, Back to the Future day should suffice. Audiences scrambled to theaters on Wednesday for the opportunity to see Doc, Marty and the Delorean on the big screen again.

All three films were released to over 1,800 theaters in North America to mark Oct. 21, 2015, the date that Marty and Doc go to in Back to the Future: Part II. According to TheWrap, the trilogy made a combined $1.65 million.

Back to The Future (1990), Part II (1989) and Part III (1990) have made a combined $965.5 million worldwide, notes The Hollywood Reporter. The series remains one of the most beloved trilogies in film history. That love was on full display Wednesday and Jimmy Kimmel even had Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd reprise their roles on his show. Universal also released a new short with Lloyd and re-released the series on home video.

The original films were directed by Robert Zemeckis, whose new film, The Walk, is still in theaters.
