Actor James Wolk has finally broken his streak of fronting one-and-done shows. That’s because CBS has renewed the summer drama Zoo for a second season.

The series is based on the 2012 novel by James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge. Wolk stars as an American zoologist who suddenly discovers that animals around the world are acting differently. Their behavior sparks animal attacks of humans worldwide.

Zoo's thrilling stories clicked with audiences each week during a very competitive summer,” CBS Entertainment President Glenn Geller said in a statement. “We're excited for viewers to see where our talented writers and cast take them as the adventure continues to unfold during season two in the ultimate fight of man vs. beast.”

Next year, the show will be paired with Braindead, a dramedy from The Good Wife team Robert and Michelle King that will star Mary Elizabeth Winstead. It’s still not known if CBS will renew Extant for a third year, but Under The Dome has been cancelled.

Zoo is a CBS TV Studios production. Wolverine director James Mangold is among the executive producers. The show is also available on Netflix if you are interested in catching up.

The cast also includes Kristen Connolly, Billy Burke, Nora Arnezeder and Nonso Anozie.

Today’s news has to come as a sigh of relief for Wolk, as his shows are usually cancelled after just one season. His credits include The Crazy Ones, Political Animals and Lone Star. He has had supporting roles on Mad Men, Happy Endings and Shameless.
