Joel and Ethan Coen have a new film coming out and Universal finally released the trailer for Hail, Caesar! last week. You might be expecting to see it this winter so it can compete for the Oscars, but the film will hit theaters in February.
Hail, Caesar! features an all-star cast, beginning with producer Eddie Mannix (Josh Brolin), who learns that the studio’s biggest star, Baird Whitlock, has gone missing. Who plays Baird? George Clooney of course. We see that Eddie wants Baird to star in a big, epic prestige picture. It looks like a group called The Future is behind it.
The trailer features countless references to the Golden Age of Hollywood, with Channing Tatum as a Gene Kelly-style dancer and Scarlett Johansson starring as a Esther Williams-type actress. The cast also includes Tilda Swinton, Jonah Hill, Frances McDormand and Dolph Lundgren.
Hail, Caesar! will be out on Feb. 6. It’s the Coen brothers’ first film since 2013’s Inside Llewyn Davis.
