David Cassidy is in trouble with the law again. The former teen heartthrob was in a traffic accident in early September in Florida. He has been charged with leaving the scene of the crash and driving with an expired licence plate.
The Sun Sentinel reports that Cassidy, 65, sideswiped a truck and stopped in Sept. 9 on Interstate 595. Police say he tried to cover up his licence plate, then left the scene with a flat tire.
The Broward State Attorney’s Office officially filed the charges Wednesday and Cassidy is scheduled for a hearing on Oct. 27. He was also cited for driving with a suspended license and making an improper lane change.
Cassidy’s lawyer, Jason Forman, told the Sun Sentinel that there are several inconsistencies in the police report. He said that Cassidy did provide his driver's license after the crash.
The former Partridge Family star, who lives in Fort Lauderdale, has faced several run-ins with the law in recent years. He has been arrested on DUI charges three times in the past five years. In March 2014, he went to rehab.
Police do not suspect him of using drugs or alcohol in this case, though. The Daily Mail notes that, if convicted on the leaving a scene charge, Cassidy could face up to 60 days in jail, six months probation, plus a $500 fine.
