Ellie Goulding’s performance during the Australian Football League final didn’t go as planned and the singer has been accused of lip syncing.

In the video of Goulding’s performance, the track plays while she walks across the stage with the microphone close to her lower body. She looks back to the soundboard and the track is cut short in front of the packed stadium.

After the incident, the 28-year-old took to Twitter to defend her performance. She admits to being “unwell the past week” but said she “was determined to give everything for Oz.” She sarcastically wrote, “love it when people think I lip sync, what a rad compliment.”

According to the Huffington Post Australia, the “Love Me Like You Do” singer also tweeted that the sound guy was to blame for the mistake. In a tweet that has since been deleted she posted, “Incidentally the sound guy who pressed playback twice and triggered both band tracks simultaneously is nowhere to be seen.”

9 News reports the producer of the AFL Grand Finale, Michael Gudinski defended Goulding’s performance and said in a statement, "Ellie performed live vocals to a backing track. This is a very common practice for performances in situations such as the Grand Final.Unfortunately a technical issue at the start of Ellie’s performance caused a brief hiccup but Ellie went on to prove just how much of a superstar she is, belting out two of her massive hits.”

Earlier this year, MAC cosmetics confirmed a partnership with the singer. The cosmetics line and ad campaign will be released this December.
