Ed Sheeran has achieved yet another Spotify record. His hit single, "Thinking Out Loud," has been streamed over half a billion times.
Sheeran responded to the news by thanking his fans for support this track, notes Forbes.
"Chuffed to hear that ‘Thinking Out Loud’ has had half a billion plays on Spotify," Sheeran said in a statement released by Spotify. "Being the first artist to hit that milestone is amazing. Thanks to all the people who use this as a wedding song, soundtrack to a date and as a way to woo someone into a Netflix and Chill situation.”
Half a billion plays earned Sheeran around $3.5 million from Spotify. That doesn't even include payouts from YouTube or sales of the single individually. USA Today reported that one in four Spotify users have "Thinking Out Loud" on a playlist.
Last year, "The A Team" singer earned the title of being the most streamed artist in the world and his popularity seems to only be increasing. When the Grammy nominations are announced in December, it's likely that Sheeran will be earning a few nominations for "Thinking Out Loud."
