Good news and bad news for Pixar fans: the studio’s most-anticipated sequel finally has a release date, but another one has been delayed.
Disney has announced that The Incredibles 2 will open on June 21, 2019. The studio released the information in a tweet about their upcoming movies, which will also include The Good Dinosaur, Finding Dory, Cars 3, Coco, and Toy Story 4.
Up until now The Incredibles 2 didn’t have a release date or even a release year, although there was plenty of speculation when director Brad Bird revealed last month that he was three-quarters of the way through the script. Nothing is known about the plot of the upcoming sequel yet, although Samuel L. Jackson did confirm that his character Frozone will return.
Pixar has also revealed that Toy Story 4 has been delayed one year. It was originally scheduled to open on June 16, 2017, but it has been moved to June 15, 2018. Cars 3 will now open in June 2017 instead.
After Monsters University came out, Pixar said they'd be cutting back on sequels and trying to do one original movie a year. Despite that, of the next six Pixar films, four of them will be sequels. The studio does have two untitled movies scheduled for 2020, though, so it's possible these will both be original properties.
