J.K. Rowling announced over the summer that she is working on a Harry Potter stage play and now we finally know what it will be about.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was announced in June and Rowling insisted that the only way for the story to be properly told is on the stage. The all-new story will be written with Jack Thorne (Let The Right One In) and John Tiffany (Once) is directing the production. It will debut in London in 2016.

Today on her Pottermore site, Rowling revealed the synopsis for The Cursed Child. It turns out that the story centers on Harry’s youngest son, Albus, who is struggling with a legacy he never wanted. “As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places,” the synopsis reads.

The play is being told in two parts and will include a cast of over 30 actors. Tickets will go on sale online on Oct. 28 for anyone who registers at HarryPotterThePlay.com and will be available to the general public on Oct. 30. It will be staged at the Palace Theatre in the West End.

“The story only exists because the right group of people came together with a brilliant idea about how to present Harry Potter on stage,” Rowling said. “I’m confident that when audiences see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child they will understand why we chose to tell this story in this way.”

There are no immediate plans to take the play to Broadway, but you can bet if it gets good reviews, The Cursed Child will eventually make its way across the pond.
