A would-be Sacramento, California bride and her family have set the ultimate example for what to do when a wedding is cancelled at the last minute. They decided to use the food to feed the homeless.
Quinn Duane, 27, was going to get married Saturday at the Citizen Hotel and her parents had already spent $35,000 on the wedding. On Monday, her groom-to-be called off the wedding, but it was too late for the Duane family to get any of their money back. Instead of letting the food go to waste, they decided to give back to the community.
“When I found out on Monday that the wedding would not be taking place, it just seemed like, of course, this would be something that we would do to give back,” Kari, Quinn’s mother, told KCRA.
At first, only one woman came. But soon, families were arriving and they ate meals they could only dream of. The food was similar to the meals served at the hotel restaurant and there was more than enough for everyone because 120 guests were invited to the wedding. The Associated Press reports that around 90 homeless people showed up.
Kari said the bride-to-be decided to stay at home. Quinn’s family also paid for a nonrefundable honeymoon trip to Belize, so her mom will go with her.
