The sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service will now officially be hitting theaters, just two years after the original.

According to ComingSoon.net, Kingsman 2 has been set for a June 16, 2017 release date.

The first movie was released in February, but this shift to summer reflects the studio's confidence in the franchise after the original was such a hit. The only other film currently scheduled to open with Kingsman 2 is Cars 3, although considering both films target radically different audiences, that shouldn't be an issue.

Kingsman 2 is expected to go into production this April. At the time, there was some concern that this date would conflict with actor Taron Egerton's commitments to Robin Hood: Origins, but he will now shoot that movie during the summer.

Director Matthew Vaughn is currently working on the script for Kingsman 2, although it's not yet clear if he'll direct the sequel. Still, having him back on board in any capacity is a good sign, especially after Kick-Ass 2 was such a disaster without his involvement.

Aside from Egerton, it hasn't been confirmed who will return for the followup, although apparently Colin Firth's death in the original might not prevent him from coming back. Vaughn has said that he might find a way to bring back Firth's character, even after he was shot point blank in the face. That should certainly be interesting.
