For some reason, there are a lot of people who can't stand the idea of an all-female Ghostbusters movie and that reaction was pretty upsetting for the star of the upcoming reboot.

In an interview with Variety, Kristen Wiig said that she's never been part of a movie that received this much backlash and all the negative reactions really bummed her out.

“The fact there was so much controversy because we were women was surprising to me,” Wiig said. “Some people said some really not nice things about the fact that there were women. It didn’t make me mad, it just really bummed me out. We’re really honoring those movies.”

Paul Feig, director of the new Ghostbusters, had a similar reaction, calling the responses vile and misogynistic. He said he was particularly shocked by the kinds of people who seemed to object to women appearing in films.

“I figure it’s some wacked-out teenager," he said. "But almost constantly it’s someone who’s bio says ‘Proud father of two!’ And has some high-end job. You’re raising children and yet you’re bashing me about putting women in my movie?”

The upcoming Ghostbusters reboot will star Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. It's not expected to take place within the same universe as the original two installments, but Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Bill Murray will all have cameo appearances.
