Very few actors today give as much effort as Leonardo DiCaprio when it comes to their roles. He has always been known to go the extra mile, but this time even he outdid himself.

He told Yahoo Movies that he actually slept in an animal carcass while filming in the freezing cold while filming The Revenant. The 40-year-old actor went on to say that this was one of the hardest films to make he has ever been a part of.

DiCaprio has been nominated for four Oscars and has not yet won. He will try again as director Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu has pushed him like no other director has before.

“I can name 30 or 40 sequences that were some of the most difficult things I’ve ever had to do,” DiCaprio said. The actor said he also had to eat raw bison liver while on set and was enduring freezing cold along with possible hypothermia.

The Revenant is about a frontiersman (DiCaprio), who gets stranded in the Canadian wilderness after a bear attack. He survives and tries to track down the man (Tom Hardy), who left him there to die. It is the classic tale of revenge.

Audiences can see DiCaprio’s real life struggles when the film comes out on Dec. 25. We'll find out in February if all that effort was worth it when the Oscars are handed out.
