Jessica Baker of Andover, Minnesota hoped that her mother could babysit her children so she and her husband could go to a cousin’s wedding. Her mother said she couldn’t make it, so they weren’t able to go to the wedding on Aug. 29. A month later, they actually received a letter informing them that they had to pay for the meals they didn’t eat.
Baker first complained about it on Facebook and posted a picture of the receipt. It showed that she was asked to pay $30 per meal, plus taxes, bringing the bill to $75.90.
“This cost reflects the amount paid by the bride and groom for meals that were RSVP'd for, reimbursement and explanation for no show, card, call or text would be appreciated,” the note reads, reports KARE-11.
Baker said that the invitation said that no children were allowed at the wedding, so she and her husband just decided to follow that. She told KARE that she will not pay the bill and doesn’t know what she could have done to avoid it.
“I guess I don't know what the right answer would have been. What the right thing to do would have been,” she told the local station.
WCCO spoke with the groom of the wedding, who requested that his name not be revealed. He said that the bride was hurt by several relatives not attending the wedding without any explanation. He admitted that the invoices - which he sent to three other relatives - was a “tacky” move and that don’t think the relatives will pay.
Yeah, don’t hold your breath while waiting to be paid back.
