Phil Collins has stayed out of the spotlight in recent years, but he finally plans to rectify that with an autobiography that’s “warts and all.”
Penguin Random House will be publishing the book worldwide in October 2016. As NME notes, Collins said in a statement that it is finally the right time for him to tell his story.
“Several times over the last few years I have been asked to write a biography but never felt that the time was right - until now,” the former Genesis member said in a statement. “Having found the right publisher in Penguin Random House I am ready to go on record about my life in music with all the highs and all the lows and to tell the story from my point of view, warts and all.”
Ben Dunn, the publishing director at Penguin imprint Century, said that the book reveals “one of the last great untold stories.”
Collins was the lead singer of Genesis, but would go on to have a successful solo career with “Against All Odds,” “In The Air Tonight” and “Sussudio.” Collins also won an Oscar for the song “You’ll Be In My Heart” for Disney’s Tarzan. His most recent album is 2010’s Going Back. He retired from performing after the album’s release.
According to The Associated Press, Century will publish it in the U.K., while Crown Archetype will release it in the U.S.
