Tonight, we will finally get the third Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer, but we have to sit through a football game to see it. While we wait for the Eagles/Giants game to kick off, Disney has released a series of seconds-long clips to tease the trailer. (Yes, we have now reached a point where we are talking about teasers for a trailer.)
Disney has been airing these spots on ESPN to tease the trailer, as if the company really needs to. Disney and Lucasfilm announced on Sunday that the teaser will be revealed during Monday Night Football tonight. That news was accompanied by the main poster for TFA.
The first teaser shows Rey (Daisy Ridley) and BB-8 looking to the sky on a jungle world, and seeing a fleet of ships through the trees.
The news one shows Poe (Oscar Isaac) jumping out of his X-Wing and bumping into Finn (John Boyega). It’s not clear if they know each other or not at this point of the film.
The last teaser with footage shows a shot of Rey, Poe and the second half of the Finn shot seen in the prior one. At the end, there is the already familiar shot of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) turning his three-pronged lightsaber on.
A six-second spot reveals what BB-8 sounds like.
And another one just has the audio of a lightsaber.
MNF kicks off at 8:30 p.m. tonight and tickets for TFA will go on sale. The film doesn’t hit theaters until Dec. 18.
