Get ready for more Transformers because they are coming, whether you want them to or not. Hasbro Studios President Stephen J. Davis said during a Q&A over the weekend that the company and Paramount have planned out the next 10 years worth of Transformers movies, which will include four more films.
During a Q&A session at MIPCOM in Cannes, Davis gave more details about that writers room experiment from over the summer, in which Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman lead a team of writers to figure out where the franchise would go next. In September, it was reported that the results of that experiment included a new animated film, in addition to a fifth Transformers live-action movie. It was also rumored that Michael Bay had committed to directing Transformer 5, but Bay tweeted that this was not the case.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Davis said that the experiment resulted in plans for the next 10 years of the Transformers series, which would include three more films on top of Transformers 5.
“Nine of some of the most creative writers I have ever worked with, shepherded by Akiva Goldsman, who many of you may know won an Academy Award for A Beautiful Mind and [has] written a bunch of great movies. And they plotted out the next 10 years of Transformers,” Davis said. “Similarly, we are doing the same in television and in digital. So stay tuned, Transformers 5 is on its way, and 6 and 7 and 8.”
While all of the Transformers movies have been battered by critics, audiences around the world have rushed to see them. Last year’s Age of Extinction grossed $1.1 billion worldwide. That’s the only reason Hasbro and Paramount needs to make more of them.
