Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has announced he will cut about 8 percent of the company by laying off up to 336 out of 4,100 employees.

Dorsey, who was named CEO on Oct. 5, let employees know via email on Tuesday. He also shared the information with the SEC.

"So we have made an extremely tough decision: we plan to part ways with up to 336 people from across the company," he wrote.

SFGate notes Dorsey was brought back on as head of the company in effort to salvage financial losses they’ve been experiencing, as well as a stunt in user growth.

He tweeted on Tuesday he “made some tough but necessary decisions that enable Twitter to move with greater focus and reinvest in our growth.”

In his email to staff, he said they will aim to move forward with a more “purpose-built team.”

“We are doing this with the utmost respect for each and every person,” he wrote. “Twitter will go to great lengths to take care of each individual by providing generous exit packages and help finding a new job.”
