Viola Davis is reacting to the backlash she received from soap star Nancy Lee Grahn for her history-making Emmys acceptance speech and unsurprisingly, she took the high road.

When the How To Get Away With Murder star accepted the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, she became the first African American actress to win in the Lead Actress in a Drama category.

In her speech she talked about the lack of opportunity there is for African American women in the entertainment industry and thanked actresses Taraji P. Henson, Kerry Washington, Halle Berry, Nicole Beharie, Meagan Good and Gabrielle Union for paving the way for change.

In response to Grahn’s criticism of her speech for using the platform to point out racial inequality, Davis told the New York Times, "If there has been any backlash, it’s that all people want to feel included in a speech.”

She added of Grahn, “I know there has been some backlash with an actress who didn’t feel she was included" and wouldn't comment any further.
