We’ve told you to watch Aladdin many times over the years. In fact, TheCelebrityCafe.com has ranked Jaffar as the #2 Disney Villain of all time, “Part of Your World” is our #1 favorite Disney song. We discussed with you Robin Williams’ role as Genie in the days following his death, that it was the first time Disney fit a role to a star instead of vice-versa, and reminding you we thought it was one of his all-time best roles.
So we expect you have seen the movie, at least once. So why would we tell you now to buy the diamond edition of Aladdin? For exactly those same reasons.
On top of the the must-watch list for this DVD are the Genie outtakes. The co-directors, and supervising animator of the Genie said that, "When they first recorded Robin Williams for the Genie, as you might guess, he did hours and hours of recording. he recorded what we had written, he recorded many, many improvs, he went down the block, and around the street, and actually to another town occasionally, another state. He got on a plane, he came back.... Robin did so many amazing things, we always thought it would be great if other people could get a glimpse at some of that."
So they set that up with an exclusive look at Williams' outtakes. If you love Robin Williams, if you LOVE the Genie, this is the best glimpse into them both ever created.
Now if you love the nefarious Jaffar, you have to check out the song that did not make it into the film. It is the 3 minutes of Jonathan Freeman singing "My Finest Hour."
Whether you have never seen Aladdin (gasp!) or watch it regularly, the diamond edition is worth getting, for one of the best Disney films ever created, but also for the extras on the disc. It's truly a wish come true.
