Alicia Vikander, star of The Danish Girl, talked about the current differences in Hollywood between female and male actors, but thinks that things are changing for the better.
After a screening of The Danish Girl at the Landmark theater, Vikander spoke to The Wrap and explained that she has had the chance to take on some very powerful roles as a female. "I’ve played some really extraordinary, strong, female-layered roles. I think there is a change happening, I’ve seen it.”
There was a moment when the gender differences was made clear to Vikander. She realized that despite playing four incredibly powerful character, in which she was the lead, none of those roles features scenes with another actress but beside that, she still feels that the tides are changing.
“It’s wonderful to see that with ‘Divergent’ and ‘Hunger Games,’ and even the big blockbuster movies have incredible female leads showing that they can bring as much of a financial box office as anybody else,” she added. “I think just by what we do, talking about it, I think gradually… it’s about, with any change, it’s about bringing the subject up.”
Jennifer Lawrence and Sandra Bullock have been very open about addressing the wage difference issue between male and female actors.
