The American Music Awards were last night, giving audiences a much-needed musical end to the weekend. With Jennifer Lopez hosting, the show featured several memorable performances, but there were actual awards to hand out in between them.
One Direction, Taylor Swift, The Weeknd and Nicki Minaj were multiple-award winners. One Direction’s fans voted in force, with the group winning both awards they were nominated for: Artist of the Year and Favorite Duo or Group - Pop/Rock.
Swift’s awards were for Favorite Album - Pop/Rock (1989); Favorite Artist - Adult Contemporary; and Song of the Year (“Blank Space”).
The Weeknd picked up awards for Favorite Male Artist - Soul/R&B and Favorite Album - Soul/R&B (Beauty Behind The Madness).
Minaj’s wins were for Favorite Artist - Rap/Hip-Hop and Favorite Album - Rap/Hip-Hop (The Pinkprint).
Florida Georgia Line also won both Favorite Duo or Group - Country and Favorite Album - Country (Anything Goes).
