Monster movies were the superhero movies of the early 1900s and studios are trying to bring them back. To do that they will need some star power and they have their eyes on a good one.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal studios wants Angelina Jolie to play the Bride of Frankenstein. Jolie recently directed By the Sea for Universal alongside her husband, Brad Pitt. That movie may have been a flop but Universal let her do her passion project, so they will push her to return the favor and make some money back.

The Guardian reports that Universal is trying to create a “cinematic universe” based on classic horror monsters like Frankenstein, Dracula, the Mummy, the Invisible Man, the Wolfman, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon.

The original Bride of Frankenstein came out in 1935 and it's considered to be a masterpiece, so Jolie will certainly have her work cut out for her. If Jolie turns down the role, Universal may try to convince her to reprise her role for a sequel to 2008's Wanted.

Only time will tell to see what the future has in store for Universal and Jolie, so stay tuned in the coming months.
