Aramis Ramirez had a successful career in baseball over 18 seasons, but he has decided to retire.
The three time all-star officially announced that he will be retiring, ESPN reports. Ramirez made the announcement himself in a radio interview in his home country, the Dominican Republic. Ramirez finished his career with a .283 batting average and 386 home runs.
"After 18 years in the majors and more than half of my life playing baseball, I want to be with my family and do some of the things I like," Ramirez told Grandes en Los Deportes on 102.5 FM in Santo Domingo.
CBS Sports described him as durable and consistent during his career. He had an .800 OPS in all but one season from 2004 to 2013. He also hit 25 or more homers 10 different times, and batted .300 or better in seven seasons.
Ramirez spent most of his career in Chicago as the third baseman for the Cubs. He spent his entire career in the National League, as he played for the Milwaukee Brewers from 2012-2015. Ramirez started his career in 1998 playing for the Pirates and finished the 2015 season back in Pittsburgh.
