This week’s column deals with a variety of different comedy genres including a holiday romantic and a Western comedy, as well as a family fantasy adventure flick.

Alice Through the Looking Glass revolves around Alice returning to Wonderland for a third time to rescue the Mad Hatter. The Ridiculous Six is a comedic Western that chronicles the adventure of an outlaw, who learns that he has five brothers and then they all go in search of their deadbeat dad and Christmas Eve is a Christmas romantic comedy about how six different groups of characters are trapped in various elevators in New York city and what transpires.

All three films have top notch, beloved celebrities in their casts, which is sure to bring mobs of their fans to each movie’s opening days. In addition, each motion picture has an uncharacteristic plot that is guaranteed to intrigue moviegoers enough to bring them to their local movie theaters.

Alice Through the Looking Glass is a sequel set long after the events of the hit 2010 Alice in Wonderland. Once again starring Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Mia Wasikowska and Anne Hathaway and the voices of Stephen Fry, Sacha Baron Cohen and Rhys Ifans, Alice travels back to Wonderland, but this go around has her going back in time to rescue the Mad Hatter. As per its trailer, Alice (Wasikowski) must return for the third time, to the bizarre world of Wonderland to save the Mad Hatter (Depp) from the peculiar and eccentric Time (Cohen). Produced by Tim Burton, the film’s special effects will entice fans of the first film. It opens in theaters on Friday, May 27, 2016.

The Ridiculous Six is a Western comedy starring Adam Sandler, Steve Buscemi, Terry Crews, Danny Trejo, Rob Schneider, David Spade, Harvey Keitel, Luke Wilson, Nick Nolte, Will Forte (Last Man On Earth), Julia Jones (Longmire) and Taylor Launter (Twilight). This laughfest’s plot deals with an outlaw, who was raised by Native Americans, who discovers that he has five half-brothers and then they all go on a quest to find their deadbeat father. The comedy’s trailer depicts an outlaw named Tommy (Sandler), who comes across his new brothers and then they all come together and vow to track down their deadbeat pop. It opens in theaters on Friday, Dec. 11.

Christmas Eve is a holiday comedy starring Jon Heder, Patrick Stewart, James Roday (Psych), Cheryl Hines (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Bob Cole (Veep), Christina Chong (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Max Casella. Its plot centers on six very different groups of New Yorkers, who after a power outage, traps them in elevators all over New York City. The trailer for this holiday romantic comedy showcases how they all interact with each other and essentially grow as people throughout their long evening stuck together. It opens in theaters on Friday, Dec. 4.
