Since Balmain, designer Olivier Rousteing and H&M announced the high-end label would be doing an affordable collection for the masses in May, the anticipation was on another level. So when the Balmain x H&M finally came out on Friday, naturally it was pure chaos.
The entire collection sold out just hours after its launch and it crashed the Swedish retailer’s website.
Stampedes, long lines and disorder ensued across H&M’s many locations due to eager fans hoping to get their hands on at least one of the pieces. According to E! Online some shoppers waited in line outside for days before Friday’s launch, rain or shine.
In the original announcement, Rousteing said, "I want to talk to my generation: This is my main aim as a designer. H&M allows me the unique possibility of bringing everyone into the world of Balmain, get a piece of the dream and create a global #HMBalmaination: a movement of togetherness, fueled on a hashtag. The collaboration felt extremely natural to me. H&M is a brand that everybody connects to. It calls for unity, and I am all for it," WWD reports.
Of course, frustrated shoppers took to Twitter to vent their grievances over the chaos over the capsule collection.
