According to a recently released NBC/Wall Stree Journal poll, Ben Carson now leads Donald Trump in the Republican Presidential race for the first time.
The polls show 29 percent of Republican primary voters now support Carson compared to 23 percent for Trump. This poll reflects similar findings to that of a New York Times/CBS poll that shows Carson leads 26 percent to 23 percent for Trump.
Both polls also show candidates Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Jeb Bush and Carly Fiorina falling further and further behind with little chance now of catching up.
Trump has long been the frontrunner of the GOP candidates but even polls showing him as still being ahead have Carson narrowly behind by a mere one percent, according to a CNN poll.
As for Democrats in what has become a two-person race, Hilary Clinton remains the frontrunner ahead of Bernie Sanders. Interestingly, in a head-to-head matchup NBC/Wall Street Journal polls show Clinton would tie Carson but both her and Sanders would defeat Trump and Rubio.
Not all potential head-to-head matchups were polled and some voters are still undecided or not firmly committed to their current candidate. They also show voters are starting to pay more attention to the election.
As polls continue to shift, Clinton and Sanders are gearing up for the second Demcratic debate scheduled for Nov. 14.
