Brussels has seen a lot of tension as police put the city on lockdown as Belgian authorities searched for terror suspects. On Sunday, people were asked not to post on social media anything that could interfere with the search.
The New York Times reported that Belgian citizens decided to have fun with the situation by posting cat memes. Many of the tweets showed cats either helping with police operations or being caught.
In addition to the adorable images of cats with beers and French fries, the cats also made sure fellow citizens stay away from any transportation spots that could lead to danger. In one meme, two cats are used as hoverboards.
One Twitter user wrote, “This, dear outsiders, is how we fight terrorism here. They haven’t got a chance! We haz kittens! #BrusselsLockdown.”
But besides fighting crime, there were also bad kitties in sight.
This cat is studying all he needs to know from this military book. Is there a strategy in there somewhere?
A spokesman for the Brussels prosecution office did not talk about the cat photos, but did thank citizens for upholding their request regarding social media. But the police did have fun with what happened as well and even posted their own message. They wrote, “For cats who helped us last night…Help yourself!”
Now for this message brought to you by someone who is not from Belgium.
