On Saturday, California State University Long Beach announced junior Nohemi Gonzalez was killed in the Paris terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of over 100 people wounding hundreds of others.
The university will hold a vigil Sunday afternoon.
Gonzalez was a 23-year-old design student studying abroad as part of an international exchange program at the Strate School of Design. She was among 18 students studying in Paris, all others are reported safe according to school officials.
Her friends have expressed their grief on social media.
"It crushes my soul that you’re gone but you were off being a free spirit like you’ve always been. I love you so much and cherish all the memories we’ve shared together," posted Madeline Chavez.
CSULB President Jane Close Conoley had this to say in a released statement: "I'm deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Long Beach State University student Nohemi Gonzalez. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends during this sad time. Our university stands with our nearly eighty foreign exchange students from France as they struggle with this tragedy. We will extend all support necessary to comfort them. We will also extend support to all students, faculty and staff who are in need," ABC 7 reported.
Gonzalez is also the first confirmed American fatality from the attacks.
