Channing Tatum makes his superhero debut next year, and one of the film's producers is now shedding some light on the film.
Producer Simon Kinberg told Collider that Gambit will have a unique tone separate from the other Fox comic book movies. While X-Men is dramatic and operatic and Deadpool is irreverent and dirty, Gambit will "be more of like a heist movie and a sexy thriller in a way.”
The fact that it's a heist movie is rather interesting, especially considering Marvel just released their own version of a superhero heist movie with Ant-Man over the summer. There aren't very many comic book films you could describe as being sexy thrillers, though, so it sounds like Gambit should still be pretty unique.
As previously reported, Gambit will be directed by Doug Liman. Liman is known for The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow and Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the latter of which is definitely a "sexy thriller," so perhaps that's the kind of thing Fox is going for.
The superhero film will star Channing Tatum, and it's currently scheduled to be released on Oct. 7, 2016. However, it sounds like it will almost certainly be delayed until 2017 considering shooting does not begin until next spring.
