Longtime All My Children star David Canary, who played Adam Chandler Sr. and his twin brother Stuart, has passed away at age 77.

Canary starred on the hit ABC soap for 27 years. He died on Nov. 16 of natural causes, according to an obituary posted by his family.

E! News reported his former AMC co-star Kelly Ripa tweeted, “So sad to learn of the passing of the great David Canary. A incredibly talented actor. A wonderful man. I was lucky to know you.”

Canary won five Emmys and began as a theater actor before making it big in television during the ‘60s. He is known for his roles in Peyton Place and Bonanza. He also appeared on other soaps, including Another World before he joined AMC.

Canary is survived by his wife of 33 years, Maureen, his brother John, son Christopher, daughter Kathryn, and grandson Donovan. His family has requested for people to make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association under “David Canary Memorial Fund.” While a memorial tribute is planned for the actor, his funeral services are said to be private for his family.

Actress Alicia Minshew, another co-star of Canary’s on AMC tweeted a remembrance to Canary.
