Authorities have said that two teens at a Connecticut high school were arrested after they allegedly dressed up in Columbine-shooter costumes and threatened other students.
NBC Connecticut reported that the two sophomores at Litchfield High School dressed up as the infamous killers for Halloween and then allegedly told their classmates that they would hurt them.
"The costume was essentially black trench coats, baseball caps and sunglasses," Litchfield Superintendent Lynn K. McMullin said. "This is the times we're living in, and we would be inhuman if it didn't put us on edge."
One of the teen’s lawyers, David Moraghan, tells a different story. He claims that a group of students approached his client and commented that his clothing made him look like he was going to “shoot up the school.”
Police responded to the incident and said that witnesses’ accounts of what happened counter that claim.
The New York Times noted that the school will not tolerate what the students are accused of, especially in today’s society where mass shootings are not uncommon, and is looking to suspend both teens.
No names have been released as those involved are juveniles.
