Even though there’s a Starbucks in the lobby of Trump Tower in Manhattan, Donald Trump is suggesting a boycott of the coffee chain over the simple red Christmas cups that have religious conservatives enraged.
The outrage reached a fever pitch over the weekend, with many disappointed that Starbucks is using simple red cups without any design during the holidays. Previous holiday cups have included Christmas imagery, so many feel that Starbucks is waging a war on the holiday.
Trump was asked about the controversy today in Springfield, Illinois during a pre-debate event, reports the Associated Press.
“Did you read about Starbucks? No more Merry Christmas on Starbucks,” Trump told the crowd.
“Maybe we should boycott Starbucks. I don’t know,” Trump continued. “Seriously, I don’t care.”
Trump also said on Monday that he will somehow find a way to make businesses use “Merry Christmas” instead of “Happy Holidays” again. “If I become president, we’re all going to be saying, ‘Merry Christmas’ again. That I can tell you,” Trump said.
Trump also said that he wouldn’t renew Starbucks’ lease to operate in his building, adding, “but who cares?”
The Republican presidential candidate will be at the debate tonight in Milwaukee. The debate airs tonight on Fox Business.
